Sunday 27th July Frapello, Ria de Vigo
A truly international weekend, divers from Belgum, Portugal, England and Spain.
Photo courtesy of Jose Roças from Portugal.
Saturday 12th End of the world
A trip up to Finesterre and dive the Loubeiras Islands.
Our first dive was the Galera rock formation just north of the Loubeiras lighthouse.
20msw, gullies and boulders, gorgonian fans, octopus and cuttle fish plussome large wrass.

Second dive in the lagoon with some student divers, max depth 8msw but what an assortment of sea weeds and beasties. More fotos to follow
Sunday 13th The galleons of the second Armada
Wreck of a 1596 galleon.
After a short boat ride we arrived at the dive site in a sheltered cove, little did we know the violent end to a great war ship of the second Armada of Padilla.
The galleon, like the majority of the rest of the Armada, was wrecked in a violent storm, never to leave Spanish waters.
Descending the anchor line to 8msw, right next to our anchor was the first cannon. A big brute that would have caused the British fleet great damage if it had made it to the English coast.
The picture does not show its size but has to be at least a 12-pounder.
There are also some canonette nearby.
There are only two cannon at this site that we know about, however, the are a good number of lead ingots that would have served as ballast on the trip out, then converted to shot for the invading soldiers.

On some of the ingots the essay marks can still be clearly seen.
The site is
unusual as the lead has poisoned some of the plant life, but as you can see from the photos the kelps seem immune to its presence.
A number of boulders have a coating of the lead.
As this is a historic site and as the price of lead is high, we never divulge its location… so don’t ask!
